Boeing has reached a significant milestone in its MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopter program, securing an order for the first four aircraft under full-rate production. The announcement follows the U.S. Air Force’s declaration of initial operational capability earlier this year, marking an important step forward in the modernization of its helicopter fleet.

The latest contract supports the U.S. Air Force’s plans to expand the deployment of the MH-139A Grey Wolf, a versatile military helicopter designed to support critical security and operational missions, including the protection of strategic missile installations across the United States.
According to Kathleen Jolivette, Vice President and General Manager of Vertical Lift Programs at Boeing Defense, Space & Security, the achievement demonstrates the program’s growing operational readiness and reinforces ongoing efforts to modernize the Air Force’s capabilities.
Expanding Production and Operational Readiness
The transition to full-rate production represents a major development for the Grey Wolf program, enabling Boeing to increase manufacturing output and support broader operational deployment.
With the addition of these four helicopters, the total number of MH-139A aircraft under contract has reached 42 units, of which 27 have already been delivered.
This progress highlights Boeing’s commitment to delivering modern, mission-ready rotorcraft while supporting the U.S. Air Force’s long-term fleet modernization strategy.
Strengthening U.S. Air Force Capabilities
The MH-139A Grey Wolf is set to play an important role in enhancing the U.S. Air Force’s operational flexibility, security and mission effectiveness.
As production expands, the aircraft will contribute to the modernization of helicopter operations, providing improved capabilities to support national defense requirements and the protection of critical military infrastructure.
The latest order marks another step in the Grey Wolf program’s transition from development and initial deployment toward sustained operational service.
